ipod ad

1. Describe what it is: An ad for ipod
2. Describe its function: To get people to buy and use ipods
3. Describe where you saw it: online one day
4. Discuss the style of the design and typography:  The design is modern the only type in the ad is at the top right corner where you can see the single word "ipod."
5. Discuss the quality of artwork: The design is very well done.  The black figure is the focal point since it is surrounded in colorful plant-life. 
6. Discuss what attracted you to this piece:  I liked feeling of rhythm you get when looking at this design.  You can tell just by looking at it that the ad is music related.

2. Describe its function: To get people to drink AMP

4. Discuss the style of the design and typography:  The design is very modern. The text on the bottle is clean and simple.
5. Discuss the quality of artwork: I think the design is well done.  Very clean and draws your eye.  The green guitar is a focal point on the black background and the curving line draws your eye to the bottle.
6. Discuss what attracted you to this piece:  I like the black background and the the choice of green used.  I think the ad is very successful.

Movie Poster

1. Describe what it is: a movie poster
2. Describe its function: To get people to watch the film
3. Describe where you saw it: on the Internet
4. Discuss the style of the design and typography: The style is modern and the typography is in Japanese. 
5. Discuss the quality of artwork: The design is well done.  The colors are bright and your eye travels around the design.  All the characters are looking at someone, making your eye jump around.  The man looks to be the focus because he is in the center and is wearing white when the girls are in red.
6. Discuss what attracted you to this piece: I liked the bright colors that were used and how the people were the focus.  The title of the film seems less important because it is near the bottom.  It was something different yet very effective.

4. Discuss the style of the design and typography: The style is modern and up to date.  Their isn't any type used.  
5. Discuss the quality of artwork: The design is very well done.  The design doesn't need type to get the message across. 
6. Discuss what attracted you to this piece: I like how simple the design is.  I think it is very clever how the target is repeated- once around the dogs eye then again in the top left corner.  Very cute!

Milton Glaser

2. Describe its function: To get people interested in art and design. To show how color can be used as a focal point in a design. 
3. Describe where you saw it: on the Internet
4. Discuss the style of the design and typography: The style is Psychedelic.  The only type is located in the bottom right corner of the design. 
5. Discuss the quality of the artwork: The design is very simple.  The hair is the only colorful part of the work. 
6. Discuss what attracted you to this piece: I like how the white left side balances the design.  I think this is a very well thought out design. I love the color choices and how the hair contains all the color. I also like how the curly hair adds depth when everything else looks flat.

3. Describe where you saw it: online when I was surfing the Internet one day.
4. Discuss the style of the design & typography: The style is modern.  The type goes well with the design and grabs peoples attention. The type gets a point across to the viewers and makes people think about art in general.
5. Discuss the quality of artwork:  I think the design is very well done.  I like how everything is in black and white expect for the paint.  The color choice makes the design even better.  The paint is the focal point but the text makes you think.  
6. Discuss what attracted you to this piece: I really like the text as well as the design layout.  I think the design is very powerful and gets people's attention.

Bass Pro Shop

1. Describe what it is: A ad for Bass Pro Shop
2. Describe its function: To get people to shop at Bass Pro Shops
3. Describe where you saw it: I saw this in a book called Communication Arts. 
4. Discuss the style of the design and typography:
The style is up to date. When you shop at Bass Pro Shops you catch large fish.  The only text in the ad is on the catalog by the fish tank.  The Bass Pro Shop logo catches your eye.
5. Discuss the quality of artwork: I think this ad is very well done.  I like how they added humor to the advertisement.
6. Discuss what attracted you to this piece: I liked this ad because it is very simple and planned out.  I like how the Bass Pro Shop logo stands out because of the red and yellow colors used.  I also like how the large fish on the catalog is shown at an angle to draw your eye to the line of fish in the fish tank.

m&m's

1. Describe what it is: A m&m candy ad
2. Describe its function: To get people to buy and eat m&m candy.
3. Describe where you saw it: I saw this ad on online.
4. Discuss the style of the design and typography: I think the style is modern.  The type on the m&m's  is small yet the main type in the center of the ad is large and is the focal point. 
5. Discuss the quality of artwork: I think the quality is high.  I like how the m&m's have different words on each one.  This makes the viewer take time to look at the ad more closely. 
6. Discuss what attracted you to this piece: I like how "your" is the focus in the center.  It grabbed my eye because it was a different color.  I also like how My M&M's is bolded.  With both of these words standing out it makes you want to buy m&m's and get creative... your way!

Goldfish

2. Describe its function: To get you to pay attention to color and placement. 
3. Describe where you saw it: online 
4. Discuss the style of the design and typography: The style is modern and the type is small and not a focus. 
5. Discuss the quality of artwork: I think the quality is very high.  I love how the artist used color and placement to create a focal point of the one goldfish. 
6. Discuss what attracted you to this piece: I love the message.  The work is simple and to the point. Having the one fish in color makes the emphasis single fish as well as the text below the image. Very clever! 

Falling Colors

1. Describe what it is: A photo of dripping colors
2. Describe its function: To grab your attention and remind you how powerful colors can be.
3. Describe where you saw it: In a book that I was looking at.
4. Discuss the style of the design and typography: I think the style is modern. I like the work is simple, all the colors are organized and seem to be planned out. The colors overlap yet they don't blend together.
5. Discuss the quality of artwork: I think the quality of artwork is high.  The colors are bright and powerful, which attracts your eye.
6. Discuss what attracted you to this piece: I love the drips towards the bottom of the design.  I think the drips add depth and make the design more interesting. I also like the variations in sizes of the drips. 

Mac and Coca-Cola

1. Describe what it is: Mac and Coca-Cola logos
2. Describe its function:  To get people to buy Mac products and drink Coca-Cola pop
3. Describe where you saw it: Online when I was surfing the Internet one day.
4. Discuss the style of the design and typography: The Coca-Cola logo is Victorian and the Mac logo is modern. The design is very simple.  The only text is in the logo Coca-Cola.
5. Discuss the quality of artwork: The quality of the design is very high. The artist took both simple logos and added lines to make them look as if they were smeared.  To me, they also look like they were painted and didn't fully dry so the paint is dripping down. 
6. Discuss what attracted you to this piece: I liked how the logos are put together in one design, yet they look different because of the different colors used in the backgrounds. Even though the products are very different the vertical lines on both logos tie them together and show unity in the design. 

The Love of Candy



1. Describe what it is: A candy poster
2. Describe its function: To grab peoples attention and to get them to buy or eat candy.
3. Describe where you saw it: On the wall inside a school
4. Discuss the style of the design and typography: If I were to name a style I would say this design would be closest to American Kitsch. It has cartoon-style illustrations and lots of curves. The only text in the design is near the top "We heart Candy".  The text is not a focus and is in small font.
5. Discuss the quality of artwork: The design is very busy and can be overwhelming.  You have to take time to look at everything in the design. 
6. Discuss what attracted you to this piece: I liked the cartoon characters and the busy feeling.  I also like how many colors are used in the design and how all the colors seem to pop against the black background.

Pepsi

1. Describe what it is: A Pepsi soda Advertisement 
2. Describe its function: To get people to buy and drink Pepsi soda.
3. Describe where you saw it: In a magazine that I was looking at. 
4. Discuss the style of the design and typography: The style is modern. Their isn't any type on this ad except for the Pepsi logo in the bottom right hand corner. 
5. Discuss the quality of artwork: I think the advertisement is very effective. I like how simple the ad is and how the Pepsi can is the focus.  The hand of the cheatos is reaching out for the Pepsi and drawing viewers eye to the can. 
6. Discuss what attracted you to this piece: I like how the Pepsi logo is the only type in the design.  The design is to the point and doesn't need any type to tell people what is going on or what the message is.  The message is clear- you want/need Pepsi! 

Nike

















1. Describe what it is: Ads to Advertise for Nike shoes and other Nike products
2. Describe its function: To get people to buy Nike shoes and other products
3. Describe where you saw it: On the Nike website
4. Discuss the style of the design and the typography: The style is modern.  There isn't any type used but you still know what the product is and what they are trying to sell.
5. Discuss the quality of artwork: I think the quality is very high.  People all know Nike products and their trademark symbol. Having a well known athlete like Tiger Woods is often associated with Nike products and makes people want to buy their products because athletes are in many of the ads. 
6. Discuss what attracted you to this piece: I like both ads because they didn't have type yet they still caught my eye and made me look closer into the ad.  I think they both do a good job in sense of humor and showing different ways to approach a popular product.

3. Describe where you saw it: it was in my fridge calling my name one morning. 
4. Discuss the style of the design and typography: The style is modern. The Starbucks logo is a great design because of the simple image and colors used.  The green color against the black draws your eye. 
5. Discuss the quality of artwork: I think the quality is very high.  Everyone knows a Starbucks logo when they see one. Their simple logo design and wonderful coffee bring in customers!
6. Discuss what attracted you to this piece: I love their coffee and have always liked their logo.

4. Discuss the style of the design and the typography: The design and the typography are modern.  The text is the focal point because it is white and in the center of the page.
5. Discuss the quality of the artwork: The artwork is very up to date because of the graphics used. I also like the bright colors used for the hand and gum against the dark background. 
6. Discuss what attracted to you this piece: I like the bold colors and the placement of Big Red in the center of the ad. I also like how the figure nails blend into the gum.

1. Describe what it is: This is a Panera bag from the Panera bread restaurant
2. Describe its function:  To carry your food while also advertising the restaurant. 
3. Describe where you saw it: My mom went to Panera to get bagels one morning.  I woke up and saw it on the kitchen counter. 
4. Discuss the style of the design and typography: The style is modern.  The image looks stylized and the text looks up to date. I like how the word Panera and the image look bolder and the word bread has a white background to grab your eye. 
5. Discuss the quality of artwork: The quality is very well done.  The image is stylized yet people can still tell that the image is a person holding bread. 
6. Discuss what attracted you to this piece:  I like how simple it is.  The colors are not overwhelming they seem to fit in with the piece very well.

One Nation


1. Describe what it is? This is a book about September 11th.
2. Describe its function? To try and get the message across how dramatic that day was.  To make you proud to be an American. 
3. Describe where you saw it? I first saw it at a book store and knew I had to have it.
4. Discuss the style of the design and typography? The style is modern the layout is simple yet does a good job in getting the message across. There is not much type yet the type is a focal point because of it's size and color.  If you look closely you can see that the background is made up of thousands of little pictures of the many people that were lost that day in September. 
5. Discuss the quality of artwork?  I think that the quality is very good.  The design is very professional done and makes you want to read what is inside. 
6. Discuss what attracted you to this piece? I really like the background of the cover- i like how the little pictures of people that were involved in the attacks come together to make the flag of the United States of America.  The text of "One Nation" makes everything come together. Everything is very well thought out.

Class of Double O Seven

1. Describe what it is: This is a logo that we had put on shirts for our senior year of High School. 
2. Describe its function: To inform others what our class "represented." To advertise our class and what we thought of when thinking about the year 2007.
3. Describe where you saw it: Someone designed the layout of James Bond within the circle than we added the text.
4. Discuss the style of the design and typography: I would say that the design and type are up to date and modern. 
5. Discuss the quality of artwork: The design is very simple and clean.  It is to the point and gets the message across. 
6. Discuss what attracted you to this piece: I like the use of white, red and black together, it seems to attract my eye. I also like how simple this design is.  I think the text goes well with the image.  The text seems to add to the piece.

Macbook Pro Box

1. Describe what it is? 
- This is a Macbook Pro laptop case that it came in when it was shipped to my house.
2. Describe its function?
-To protect the laptop and to advertise what product is within the case.
3. Describe where you saw it?
- I saw it on my doorstep when I got home one day. 
4. Discuss the style of the design and typography?
- The style is very modern and hip.  The style is very simple and has no text.  The picture is the only object on the box.  Having just a picture makes the case to the point and simple to understand. It also lets the consumer know what the product is going to look like. 
5. Discuss the quality of artwork?
- The picture is very clean and sharp.  The picture has great detail showing the keys on the key board and the toolbar on the computer screen. 
6. Discuss what attached you to this piece?
- I love how simple and to the point the case is.  I love how mac products are advertised and how they get their message across.  The case to me shows that the product I bought is top of the line.
